Dr. Robert Turner reveals how retired football players can stay healthy

After Dr. Robert Turner retired from football, he went on to earn a Ph.D. He’s now a world-famous researcher and expert in the health of retired athletes.

In this wide-ranging interview, Dr. Turner and I discuss his journey from professional athlete to scientist. We then review three of his tips for retired athletes:

  • Establish strong social networks. You’ll have a healthier and happier life if you have friends and family looking out for you.

  • Be on the lookout for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). If you snore at night, get checked out for this potentially deadly medical condition.

  • Many athletes had concussions and now have depression and brain aging. He’s spearheading a research project to learn more about athlete’s brain health. You may be able to join his study by visiting www.brainhealthstudy.com.
